At my Taft reunion this past May I reconnected with my classmate, Alex. Alex has an amazing job and is an editor at Amazon Publishing. How fun would that be? She reached out to me in July to say she had been working on The Preppy Cookbook by Christine E. Nunn and wanted to send me an advance copy. I jumped at the chance and have been enjoying going through ever since.
The Preppy Cookbook is divided up by season/occasion making it easy to plan just a meal or an entire party. It is filled with classics like Seven Layer Bars, Crab Dip and Peach Crisp but also has recipes I was not familiar with (Pinecone Cheese Ball, Chilled Mixed-Berry Riesling Soup and Big 80's Salad with Goat Cheese Croutons).
While my copy does not have color photos of each dish, the current copy does so you can easily compare your dishes and see if you live up to the hype of a preppy chef. Kidding! The recipes are all very easy and self explanatory as much of the emphasis is on taste.
Intertwined throughout the cookbook are some great drink recipes to compliment your meals along with fun photos. Just like the Barefoot Contessa takes you on a trip to Paris in her French cookbook, The Preppy Cookbook is like a glimpse into Christine Nunn's life.
As if the cover was not cute enough to sell this cookbook, there are fun tidbits woven throughout. My favorite was the Veuve Clicqouot Dollhouse Furniture. Had I only known about this as a child I think I would have spent days creating chairs out of popped tops!
From Bloodies to Grasshopper Pie to Brunch as a Verb, The Preppy Cookbook is full of great recipes and fabulous photos. It is a great read and would make a perfect hostess gift or stocking stuffer too!
