The State Fair of Texas officially opened their gates on Friday evening. I could hardly wait to enjoy some fried food goodness so Friday evening a group of friends and I headed over to Fair Park. We attended a fun party in the Cotton Bowl which was catered by one of the fried food vendors.
We enjoyed everything from fried queso and guacamole to "Picnic on a Stick" and fried peppers.
After testing out all these treats we were dying for something sweet so we decided to make our way back out in to the fair. As soon as we excited we noticed this taffy booth. We loaded up on various flavors, banana and peppermint mostly, before walking around a little bit.
As we ventured towards the exit we came upon the animal area...my favorite area of the fair! I love being able to get up close to all the animals and feed and pet and them.
This sweet, sweet giraffe was so inquisitive. He (or she?) just sat happily staring at the many visitors.
I would not want to be caught out in the wild with these two.
This one was for Muffy Martini! However, I have got to admit that he was not nearly as nice as she is. A meany for sure!
The Brazilian zebras were so playful. They were best buddies I think.
These piglets were just about the sweetest things at the fair. The mommy of ten was rightfully out for the night.
Babies galore in the Children's Medical Center Animal Barn!
Of course I wanted to pet these cuties and dove in head first. Well, I did not quite dive but I did get up close and personal.
These cuties only seemed mildly disappointed that I did not have any treats. They loved the attention.
Or so I thought....This is what happens when you turn away. I guess they were hungry after all? Thankfully my umbrella was not eaten away or destroyed.
On our way out we stopped by to see Boris, the 1201 pound hog. This prize winner enjoys his sleep and eats 20 lbs of feed a day! Boris was happily dreaming (and snoring) as we left for the night.
It was a wonderful night at the fair and I am already ready to return. That Fletcher's corn dog stand is calling my name....!

Texas State Fair never looked so good. What a great post.
I love attending fairs. Thanks for sharing the Texas State Fair.
Wish the weather would have been better. But, it seems that we have rain most opening weekends. My favorite is the fried guacamole. Glad you enjoyed it.
Even though it is 8:30 in the morning as I'm reading this, I now am craving something fried! All that food sounds so so yummy.
You look so cute petting the animals! So right about the giraffe, it does look incredibly sweet and inquisitive. Perfect word for it!
Those animals are SO cute!
