Accent vblog!

Well, after some convincing I took the plunge and have done a vblog! I really cannot believe I did this...I have to admit I was very nervous. I hope I do not disappoint you all with my voice and/or accent...I have a feeling a lot of people (especially those I know in real life) might be making fun of me. Regardless, here goes nothing (please excuse my stumbles, I was nervous!):

The instructions are to say these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

And answer these questions:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you use to change the TV channel?

So what is the verdict; what kind of accent do I have??

So cute! I hear a slight southern accent on a few words. You seem very comfortable in front of the camera if you ask me. :)

You are adorable! I think you have a very classic American accent and speak and pronounce every word clearly, something I envy.

Hopsy, we both say "AUNT" not "ANT"...Love it!

You sound great!

Your accent is adorable. I thought you were going to have a much stronger Southern accent but it's not at all... you'd blend well here in CT for sure!

You are too cute for words! I don't think you have much of an accent but the y'all was a dead give away you live in the south! :-)

I am really catching 60% Yankee and 40% Southern. Some words are so southern and likewise with terms but then other words are soooo not southern accented at all! That is too funny!! And you look lovely, but my Mom really did want me to tell you your hair is the best. LOL

How fun is this! I am loving all of these vblogs, and you are so very cute and classy. I did hear a little southern accent, but I agree you have more of a classy american accent.

You are too cute! There is definitely a southern accent that pops up at times. I can't imagine what I would sound like on a vblog...you won't find out!

Southern!
In the south we also call the toilet paper as rolling. Usually said afterwards as in so and so's house was rolled.

coke all of the time or co-cola...definitely southern!

Love your cute southern accent for y'all

Lastly, the Southern answer for raining while sun shining is "the devil is beating his wife."

Love your vlog, you are just too cute! I think I was definitely expecting a stronger southern accent from you though!

You are too cute! I agree that you do not have a specific accent... but very nice pronunciations all around!

You are truly charming, Hopsy! As a lifelong Yankee, I definitely hear the southern accent in some words, but there is also a touch of Connecticut thrown in there, too. A very pleasant hybrid! Thanks for sharing.

Oh my Goodness! You are the most adorable, sweet and beautiful thing! This was so much fun to watch and I appreciate you sharing :) I live in Annapolis, MD and also call all carbonated drinks "Cokes" :) Hi only heardf a tiny accent on a few of your words. Most people around Washington DC say "Warrshington" and "Warrter" :) Enjoy your long weekend and keep Vloging! xoxo

I've from New York City but I have Southern parents...your accent is definitely Southern, but clipped, not drawled like Mississipi or Alabama. More Mid-South.

We totally agree on "Aunt". I have never said "ant" in my life.

Great Vblog.

You're so cute Hopsy! What a fun vblog. We're the same on most of these even though I'm New England through and through. Not really accent related, but I also call my German grandfather Opa. We don't call my grandmother Oma though, just Grandma for some reason. I've never met anyone else with an Opa!

BB said...

You are too cute!! BTW, I have an Oma and Opa as well :-)

First time commenting on your blog, and had to tell you that I thought you sounded so similar to Hilly in The Help! Slight Southern accent, super cute!

I think this is interesting. You are so cute! Your accent isn't as Southern as I thought it would be! I love your blog!

You're so cute! I think you have a little mix of southern vs. northern/midwest. Maybe I pick up on the southern more than others because I'm from Michigan and my ears pick up on anything that sounds southern! Glad you posted.. it's neat to hear everyone's accents and to see them "in person"!

YOU are just as adorable as I imagined Ms. Hopsy!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful new way to communicate with me.
As far as the accent...it sounds like a healthy blend of southern and a touch of northern.

I loved hearing your voice. You are so adorable. We pronounce most things the same way. I grew up in the North but am definitely a Southern gal now. And I say Hey y'all too!!!
