Something that my parents always worked on with me were good manners. There really is nothing worst than a child with poor manners in my opinion. You can be darling as can be and well dressed, but if you have poor manners you never get a pass in my book. While I did attend a manners class at Sea Island my parents constantly corrected me at home and worked with me, but I am still a work in progress. One of my favorite books about good manners was The Goops. NO one wanted to be a goop! I have included some of my favorite lines from the book below, enjoy!
The Goops
by Gelett Burgess
by Gelett Burgess
The Goops they lick their fingers,And the Goops they lick their knives;
They spill their broth on the tablecloth --
Oh, they lead disgusting lives!
The Goops they talk while eating,
And loud and fast they chew;
And that is why I'm glad that I
Am not a Goop -- Are you?
The Goops are gluttonous and rude,They gug and gumble with their food;
They throw their crumbs upon the floor,
And at dessert they tease for more.
They will not eat their soup and breadbut like to gobble sweets, instead,
And this is why I oft decline,
When I am asked to stay and dine!"

How cute!
Oh I love this! I had never heard of the GOOPS! I always loved reading Goofus and Gallant in Highlights magazine and my daughters love it now. Hope you're enjoying your vacation. xoxo
That's cute. We used to refer to Goofus and Gallant from the Highlights magazine. Goofus would do something wrong, and Gallant did it right ;)
How delightful! Such important reminders.
Hilarious ... I am so keeping this book in mind for upcoming baby showers! It's so whimsical!
I want this book! I love it! Manners have always been huge in my household too and will definitely be something I ingrain in my kids!
I had this book, too... I think this is why Gwyneth Paltrow's "GOOP" newsletter name has never sat well with me!
This made me laugh out loud.
My friend use to recite the Goops poem to me at work!
We had copies of the "The Goops they lick their fingers" poem at our desks.
We are second-generation Goops readers here; they are delightfully disgusting. Another favorite for teaching little ones is Richard Scary's Pig Will and Pig Won't.
Love it, I know a few kids that need to read that sadly!
Adorable!
This is cute. I am so cognizant of teaching my peanuts good manners. Will goes to cotillion and I drill manners and etiquette into them all. Wonder if this book is still in print. I should look for it.
