Culver's

In the frozen tundra we love our cold weather. Even in the midst of a snowy winter Minnesotans still love to eat chilled food. One of my very favorite chilly foods is frozen custard and when I crave it in Minnesota there is only one place to go: Culver's!
I think Culver's used to be just a Northern chain, but they have now expanded their map...Rockwall, Texas even has one now! They are famous for their butter burgers (I am ashamed to say I cannot vouch for these as I have never tried one) and of course their frozen custard. Each day each Culver's location has their vanilla custard, their chocolate custard and then there is the flavor of the day. This can range from Strawberry to Butter Pecan Brittle to Heath Bar Delight to Candy Cane Oreo. The flavor of the day is always my favorite and you have to get it while you can since flavors are rarely repeated during the month. On Wednesday we ventured out in the midst of our winter wonderland and hit up the one and only Culver's!
Another Culver's staple are cheese curds. I know, I know, they sound gross, but I promise they are divine! The are like round, bite sized mozzarella sticks and they are a pure delight when dipped in ranch.
I was certainly a happy Hopsy when I got my hands on the custard of the day, mint Oreo, in concrete form. Yum, yum, yum!

The King's Speech

Yesterday, we went to see The King's Speech in the Twin Cities. I had read quite a bit about the movie and being one that loves British history my mother and I could hardly wait to see it. Well, our high expectations were NOT let down. Colin Firth deserves an award for his portrayal of King George IV, he was PERFECT, as was Geoffry Rush (whom I was lucky enough to meet when he was filming the Tailor of Panama years ago). This is a MUST see movie!

Christmas 2010

We have had a FABULOUS Christmas season in Minnesota! We certainly had a white Christmas; we are actually living in a winter wonderland (as are many of you!) and the house is dressed up to match.
Mother has been busy working on the house since returning from India. It looked great before, but it looks even more fabulous now and the work has only just begun!
These Santa gourds were purchased in Panama and are painted by a dear friend and missionary(their home, the dining room, will be one of the last rooms to be redone).
Paper whites a plenty and churches picked up in Central America can be found throughout the first floor.
"Hark the herald angles sing!"
"Glory to the new born king!"
Then there were the people to match the decor.
Everyone got wonderful gifts (nothing is hung on the living room walls yet either, so excuse the somewhat bare look)...
...even our furry friends!
I hope you are enjoying this delightful season and that you are staying dry and warm no matter where you may be!

“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us." Matthew 1:23
It is hard to believe Christmas Eve is tomorrow night! What a whirlwind the past month has been. The Christmas season is always so special as it is filled with family and things we love. I feel like there are plenty of times during the year where I take so much for granted and complain about little things, but during this season I am constantly reminded of how truly blessed I am. I am so lucky to have a wonderful loving family that has always been there for me. I have two jobs I simply adore and have more best friends than I can count on two hands. I have a wonderful place to call home and lots of delicious food to fill my stomach. However, above all these things I have the most important thing of all; I have a relationship with God! It is hard to believe that thousands of years ago Mary was on her way to Bethlehem and would soon give birth to our King in a manger because their was no room for them at the inn. Last week I received a wonderful devotion that I wanted to share it with you today. The last sentence is especially powerful.

The short excerpt is by an unknown author, and the Scripture is Luke 2:30-33 But the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.
He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village, where He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was a preacher. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family or owned a home. He did not go to college. He never visited a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place where He was born. He did none of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself.
He was only 33 when the tide of public opinion turned against Him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.
While He was dying . . . His executioners gambled for His garments, the only property He had on earth. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend. Nineteen centuries have come and gone, and today He is the central figure of the human race. All armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man on this earth as much as that ONE SOLITARY LIFE.

Merriest of Christmases to you and yours!!

Life, Lilly and the Pursuit of Happiness

Well, they say all good things must come to an end and this past weekend was the end of an era...it was my very last day working at Lilly Pulitzer NorthPark. Sadly, the Lilly store in NorthPark is closing (from what I understand this has nothing to do with the company and lots to do with the mall but I am unsure of alllll the facts). When I first heard the news back in November I was completely shocked along with the rest of my friends/employees. Our store has met and exceeded every goal, but alas, it was time for a change I guess. In my opinion this very dreary situation was in need of a proper pink and green goodbye, so on my last day I provided just that!
I baked cake balls and picked up some easy and delicious treats for us employees to enjoy while reminiscing of our favorite Lilly times. We talked about our favorite items, the items we wish we had bought...mine was another Jubilee Kissing Ball at the warehouse sale for $5. Cassie, Jennifer and Christen however forbid me to buy it since it had a TINY crack....they will try to tell you it was a HUGE hole, do not believe them, it really was a hairline crack.
Sunday was the perfect send off for my favorite lifestyle brand!
I am going to be so sad when I visit NorthPark in 2011 and my beloved home away from home is no more. However, I firmly believe this is only "goodbye for a little while" (as said in Titanic)! While I cross my fingers that Lilly will someday reopen in Dallas I have a closet full of preppy prints to keep me warm and a handful of Lilly loving friends to reminisce with!

PS- is there any Lilly piece you wish you had bought but did not??

Paper!

It was certainly a shock to open the paper on Saturday and see this:
I had no idea my photo would even end up in the Dallas Morning News, let alone on the cover of a section or so huge. I loved working with Jamie, the author, and Nan, the photographer, and am so flattered to have been included in this article!

Tiffanys

I think Tiffany has some of the very best ads out there; both in print and on TV. They are so elegant and portray the brand just perfectly.

This year's ad is simply stunning!

I love the sweet children in this ad and the proposal scene is too sweet (be sure to check out the ladies' coat- it is FABULOUS!).

We thought jewel adorned snowmen only existed in our dreams...T&C has proved us all wrong!

Alas, we can all agree that a little blue box under the tree will make for a Christmas filled with glee!

Cupcake Exchange

This past Sunday I attended my very first ever cupcake exchange. Southern Vogue coined the idea quite some time ago and was the hostess with the mostess this past weekend.
I have attended many a cookie exchanges in my day, but this was my very first cupcake exchange and I have to say it was nothing short of amazing! Every guest brought a dozen cupcakes. You could either bake your own or stop by your favorite bakery and pick up a dozen of their staple. I LOVED the cupcake display- cupcakes, cupcakes everywhere!!!
The cupcakes were all set up in the darling kitchen while the savory eats could be found in the lovely dining room. The table looked divine and the red and white theme was carried out perfectly!
The oatmeal creme pies Southern Vogue made were to-die-for! They certainly put the Little Debbie goodies to shame!
After lots of fun and fellowship it was time to load up on cupcakes. Everything (minus my chocolate chip cookie cupcakes which were a total FAIL) looked so delicious...decisions, decisions had to be made.
I filled our baking box to the brim and have been enjoying my sweet treats ever since. The party was one of the best of the season and Southern Vogue certainly outdid herself with her creation of a cupcake exchange!

Wish List Round Two

I love to peruse stores as well as the internet and have happened upon some lovely beauties that I am adding to the list I am sending to the North Pole. I think Santa is done with his shopping, but in case he is still looking I have taken it upon myself to make his life a little easier!
Hunter Regency Quilted Boots ($175)
I simply ADORE these new Hunters! They come in black, olive and bitter chocolate. Since I have a pair of black boots the chocolate is my top choice!
These, as well as the matching bracelet below, need no explanation. I love all things pink (and green!), anything with pearls gets extra points and I have a special connection to elephants!
Hands down the best hot chocolate for the season! The handmade marshmallows are welcomed in our home (and my stocking) too!
I came across this Paris Patisserie book this weekend and it is divine. Having spent some time in Paris I would love to add put this next to my Laduree book.
I simply adore everything from Elizabeth McKay and was thrilled to find out Melly is now carrying the line. I have several short sleeve Elizabeth shirts, but now that there is a chill in the air I think the long sleeve might be needed.

Zodiac

Ever since I moved to Dallas I have been dying to try the famed holiday lunch buffet at the flagship Neiman Marcus Zodiac room. Well, it only took me three years to check this off my list and it was most certainly worth the wait!
Typically, I am not the biggest fan of buffets (something about the food sitting out and the all-you-can-eat aspect), but anything NM tends to do is done to the nines so of course I made an exception. The lunch started with NM's famous popovers with strawberry butter and then a demitasse cup of consumee. After chatting and enjoying these for a bit it was onto the salads. We all decided to do one plate of salads and starters and then go back for the entree- there just was not enough room on the plates! Everything was DELICIOUS, but the three cheese mac and cheese and goat cheese and pear stuffed pasta topped my list.
I had so much fun at the buffet that by the time dessert rolled around I was stuffed. Everything looked wonderful though! We also did a fun ornament exchange at lunch, but I was rather bad at capturing with photos. Such a wonderful lunch, spent with wonderful people. I feel so blessed to have so many dear friends to celebrate this joyous season with!

Crystal Charity

What a weekend I had! I have been a busy bee, but I suppose December is just that time of year for all of us, right? As mentioned last week, I had several parties to attend this past weekend, including one gala. Well, sadly (at the time it was sad, but later it ended up being a good thing) the gold dress I was going to wear was never sent. Needless to say, I was panicking and when I left work at 10:30pm on Friday so I ran to the only store still open, Macy's and I purchased a new dress. They only had two long dresses in my size at the store so thankfully the one I preferred fit. After a bit of fretting, many phone calls and tons persuading my problem was thankfully solved and I had a dress for Crystal Charity Ball.
The theme of this year's ball was 'A Night in Imperial Kyoto'. I have to admit I have never been too keen on Asian decor so I was interested to see how exactly the theme was pulled off. To say the chair and her team went all out and it was perfect would be an understatement. It was simply stunning.
I loved our flowers. We were at one of the square tables right by the dance floor and had a lower arrangement that was packed full of all things beautiful.Lindsey had a similar dress issue the night before the ball too. Here we are in our last minute finds! I have to admit was NOT a fan of my makeup. I went to a new girl at Bobbi Brown and asked for elegant, more bride like make up. This was not at all what I had envisioned, but thankfully it looked OK with the dress.
You can imagine my excitement when I spotted this blue and white set-up. Delightful!
The dessert was my favorite course of the evening. Isn't the chocolate accent neat? SO very fitting for the theme. After dessert it was time to dance. The bad was fabulous! They played all the classic oldies, but mixed in a few Rhianna songs and even Justin Bieber.
While the entire evening was spectacular one of the main highlights was winning a trip to St. John's! All in all the evening was beyond fabulous and I am so thrilled I was able to attend!
