Welcome HOME!

Everyday 100 to 200 soldiers fly into DFW from Iraq and Afghanistan and everyday they are met with a hero's welcome. These men and women have been fighting for OUR freedom day in and day out and are flying home for their two weeks of R&R (many are just flying through on their way to their actual home). DFW has a special program where dozens (or even hundreds) of people are able to welcome our heroes home. Flags are provided, patriotic music is played and there are endless cheers as the soldiers came through the door.
I drove out to DFW to welcome home our heroes for the very first time yesterday. It was an AMAZING experience (if anyone lives in Dallas I HIGHLY encourage you to go, it is a MUST do!). We thanked the soldiers' families as they made their way to the front of the welcome area to greet their loved ones. We waved flags and held signs. We cheered loudly and thanked each of the men and women that walked by.
Yesterday, each soldier that came through was also given a box of girls scout cookies. There is nothing like a few Thin Mints after traveling for 20+ hours!
It was truly an honor to shake hands with these brave men and women and get to thank them face to face. Watching the children run to their parents and the pregnant wives hug their husbands left most of us in tears. We will never be able to thank them enough, but I am glad that I can at least give them a hero's welcome home to the home of the free and the land of the brave!!! God bless America!

*If a family member or friend of yours is ever flying through DFW please send on their arrival date as I would love to go welcome them!!

Great post! Yes, these men and women definitely deserve it. The Girl Scout cookies were a sweet touch. I know their families are so glad they're back home safe.

What a wonderful thing to do Hopsy. Our troops need our support.

For the past 5 years our family has spent Christmas Eve at the Atlanta airport at a party for the troops flying out that night. We want our children to appreciate the wonderful people in our armed forces.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting this. You odnt get to see this in the media...its good to know it is still happening. My brother came home from a tour to the same welcome at both DFW and again in one of the Carolinas, and he told me that we can never understand the profound impact it has on them. They hear so much negativity, and when they have people thanking them, it hits them to their core. Thank you for the support, it means so much...

You're making me cry just reading it. Going to see if there is a similar program in ATL!!! Thank you so much.

Not sure if my previous comment was on here, but thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. Sadly, when I called the ATL branch of the USO, I was told they had all the volunteers they needed. How strange...

My brother, who is a pilot, spent Christmas Eve at the Atlanta airport, just like Town and Country. I think he really enjoyed it, because he flies huge chartered jets of troops all over the world, and sees what they are going to.... What a marvelous thing to do, Hopsy! I wish we had more people coming through Richmond.... Keep up the great work~!

This is awesome! I live in DC and there are 3 airports in the metro area. I'm going to have to check to see if they have a similiar program. Kudos to you for showing your support to them!

Fabulous post! My husband and I adopted a soldier and sent him care packages. It was horrible to find out that some of these soldiers do not have families to send encouragement and love while serving our country. I wish I could adopt them all. Such an inspiring post. I'm sure they felt greatly appreciated.

God Bless!

What a wonderful thing to do - we don't show our appreciation for these wonderful men and women enough. It must have been so touching to see them reunited with their loved ones!

What a wonderful thing to do. My brother is currently serving oversees as an officer in the Air Force. This story brought a tear to my eye. I hope there is something similar I can do here in DC to honor and thank our military!
