Snapshots of India
Aren't the babies just the cutest little things you have ever seen!?
These two were hopeful we had some bananas...maybe next time I will come prepared.
Yesterday, mother took me to ribbon and trim heaven! The best part is that you get yards and yards and yards for no more than $3...of course I loaded up!
Nestled into an alleyway of ribbon and trim heaven was a beautiful row of homes. As I have sad before, the details can make or break it.
Of course this called for a photo with Winston Mortimer and Augusta Winifred (please disregard the white wall behind me, the apartment is a work in progress), the sweetest pups in all of India!Friday, December 25, 2009
Merry Christmas to ALL!
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this."
One Solitary Life
Rev James Allan Francis
"He was born in an obscure village, a child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another obscure village where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty. Then for three years he was an itinerant preacher. He never had a family. Or owned a home. He never set foot inside a big city.
He never traveled two hundred miles from the place he was born. He never wrote a book or held an office. He did none of the things that usually accompany greatness. While he was still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against him. His friends deserted him. He was turned over to his enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While he was dying his executioners gambled for the only piece of property he had,
his coat. When he was dead, he was taken down and laid in a borrowed grave.
Nineteen centuries have come and gone and today he is still the central figure for much of the human race. All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, and all the parliaments that ever sat, and all the kings that ever reigned put together have not affect the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as this One Solitary Life."
May your day be filled with happiness, hope and love and may the joy of the season last throughout your year!!! Merry Christmas to all!!

Ma Maison
I temporarily am using my toile comforter as a a cover (it is normally folded up at the bottom where the monogrammed duvet is) while I look for a new blanket cover.
I really like having the pink armoire in my bedroom! Inside is a TV and lots and lots of books. I have displayed all my silver, Tiffany achievement bowls on top. I love looking at these luxuries that remind me of important dates when I wake up every morning.
All my small treasures are next to my bed!
Here is a peak from my room into the bathroom. I have TWO closets now! One is a HUGE walk in and the other is a two door space (it is rather large too, not a walk in though).
It is actually home to almost my entire Lilly collection. What a lovely sight!!
My lovely bathroom! I am planning on buying a new pink and blue shower curtain so please disregard that the current one does not really match the rest of the decor.
Paintings, blue and white plates, and monograms oh my, my!
I simply adore this mirror that I purchased at TJ Maxx for a mere $40. I really made the bathroom SCREAM when I hung it along with part of my plate collection. Nothing like making a small space wow, right?!Monday, December 21, 2009

Gifts and Tips, 2nd Edition
As you all know I just LOVE to bake. This does not not mean I am an expert baker by any means, but I find it to be very enjoyable. Three or four years ago one of my aunts, who is an expert baker (she even did my cousin's wedding cake!), gave me a darling gift. It was all the dry ingredient I needed to make her signature cookies. All I had to do was add milk and eggs and voila! The ingredients were packaged in a fun jar and the recipe/instructions were attached. This was a FABULOUS gift and it would not be too expensive to re-create. Buy a bunch of jars at your local grocery or dollar store, measure out ingredients for your signature or favorite cookie, print out some cute monogram or custom stickers to adorn the jars, type up instructions, tie a bow on and present your gift!! If you want to add an additional touch consider adding a spatula or personalizing the jar with paint pens. This gift is one that can be used be anyone and everyone so it is sure to be a hit!
What hostess does not LOVE candles? One of my very favorite candles of all time was the Slatkin Christmas candle (and the Slatkin Elton John candle!!). It smelled so good I could just sit there holding it even when it was not lit. Well thank goodness for me the Laura Slatkin continues the tradition with her NEST Holiday candle. This candle warms up any house and the packing is just beautiful as well. All this red velvet box needs is a well tied bow and a little ornament and voila, yet another gift!
If NEST candles are not in your budget (they quickly add up after a few parties) consider trying some of Henry Slatkin's (Laura's husband) holiday candles from Bath and Body Works (Winter, Tree and Spice are all nice) or a Belle Fleur holiday candle which is currently on sale at Talbot's (if you have never tried Belle Fleur candles you are missing out too!).
TIPS:
A quick candle related tip: always have a candle burning when you are home. The lovely aroma makes a winter night so much better! Plus, if you happen to have a guest pop in you can rest assured in that your house smells delightful!
Sometimes it is the simplest of things that are the most elegant. Plain garland around the door, a vase filled with nothing but boxwood or a silver bowl full of ornaments. Pick up a few boxes of ornaments (on sale of course) in your favorite colors and fill any size silver bowl to the brim. You can place this on a kitchen counter, a bedside table, a bookshelf or a coffee table (assuming you do not have a toddler) for an instant dose of holiday!
Surely the majority of you have at some point sent a card to a solider through Let's Say Thanks. However, this is the time of year when days get long and the young and old are away from their families so it cannot hurt to send another. Let a hero know you are thinking about them today!Honoring with Wreaths
I must say that before yesterday I had no idea where the wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery came from.
However, thanks to the generosity of a patriotic American every veteran's grave now has a wreath! Starting in 1992 the Worcester Wreath Company (a company I think everyone should support!!!) began donating wreaths to be placed on graves. While every grave was not adorned in 1992 with the help of volunteers and groups of Maine school children over 100,000 wreaths have been laid in 17 years. Thanks to the idea of one man the fallen heroes that provide us with out everyday freedom are now honored during this holiday season! Now, enough of Tiger and more on our heroes!!

Gifts and Tips, Edition One
We all have photos we have taken on trips or of/with family members. Photos are one of the most inexpensive things to give at this time of year and they put a smile on just about anyone's face. This gift idea is by no means anything new, but consider printing a number of photos out in black and white (5x7's are my favorite size for gifts) and stopping by your local TJ Maxx or Marshall's and stocking up on silver frames. This is an ever so classic item for any recipient! If you are short on photos consider purchasing some lovely cards (Caspari is a great option) and framing these. I have a dalrin double frame with two Caspari floral cards on my desk. It is just lovely and the cards look like small works of art!
With the weather having taken a turn it is time to bundle up! Scarves are everywhere and anywhere! You can find a lovely scarf in your recipient's favorite color for well under $10. Buy up a handful for all your best friends and have them monogrammed in a contrast color. People love to wear their initials with pride and there is no better way to brighten a dreary winter day than with a color pop of color!
Baked goods are a plenty during the holidays. As mentioned before presentation is everything! Many of you have inquired about my toile making boxes and I am finally ready to let you in on the secret (an inexpensive secret too!). BakingBoxes.com is your one stop shop for darling monogrammed baking boxes. Twenty boxes cost $9.99 so you can order enough for the entire block! Bake basic chocolate chip cookies and package them in your toile boxes with coordinating ribbon and you are sure to be the talk of the town!TIP:
In keeping with the idea that presentation is everything remember to dress up your gifts. I like to add a small adornment to every package. You can add a sprig of greenery or a small ornament- these small touches make all the difference in your presentation. Many ornaments are on sale so you can even pick up a number of extra pretty ones and tie them on to baking boxes and have a duo gift! If you feel so inclined you might even consider picking up a small box of pearl ornaments and personalizing them for every recipient. The small details do NOT to unnoticed!
Finally, during the holiday season it is always important to remember all the charities you support. As you know, many charities continue to suffer. The Dallas Salvation Army still has 8600 angels that have yet to be selected this year (I am sure many of your cities might have similar numbers). Consider adopting and angel. It is so easy as you can even register for many online now!! Get a group of friends together (that is what I did!) and adopt one or two. You can all meet at Target after school or work and pick out your child's needs and wants. Make a night out of it and go out to dinner or drive around with Starbucks looking at lights after. No gift it too small and no fellowship is unimportant!Sunday, December 6, 2009
Christmas Music!
(I LOVE Faith Hill's A Baby Changes Everything too!!!)
Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Do You Hear What I Hear?
Oh Holy Night
Must Be Santa
Raffi was by ABSOLUTE FAVORITE when I was little! I listened to his Christmas tape on repeat for years (the tape finally had to be hidden to give others a break) on my Fisher Price tape recorder. This one just had to be thrown in there as a joke for the family!!!
