Every year, as a family, we watch Home Alone on Christmas night. After rising early in the morning, playing with the kiddies and their new toys during the day, stuffing ourselves silly...it's the perfect way to end the day.

The ornaments are so pretty. One of my family's Christmas traditions is to make tamales on the 24th and by midnight they're ready to eat. Yum! I usually have mine with coffee, hot chocolate or cider. :-)

OH !!MG!!! I know I just won but I had to enter bc I would love one of these. my all time favorite holiday tradition is 5pm mass on christmas eve. I always went wtih my grandmother. we sat in the front row and I would go up to the cedar closet in her house before we left for church and get her mink coat- first time for the season. She'd wear it with a beautiful hat and off to mass we'd go. Since this is my first christmas without her by my side, Mountain Man has promised me we will be home in NJ in time for 5 o'clock mass. I will be there front row.. all my songs, prayers and thoughts going right to her xoxo

I am Italian and La Befana is one of Italy's oldest and most celebrated legends. Each year on January 6 children awaken in hopes that La Befana has made a visit to their house with a very small present. This is a significant day to Italians because it marks the end of the Christmas season and the day that the three Wise Men arrived at the manger of the Christ child.

My favorite Christmas tradition is my Grandmother and Grandfather's wedding anniversary. My Mom's parents were married on Christmas Eve in 1944, after the community-wide evening church service - so it was very late at night. They were married then because my grandfather had been called to Ft. Benning for basic training to serve in World War II. Ever since then, Christmas Eve has not only been the celebration of the birth of Christ, it is the celebration of the matriarch and patriarch of my Mother's family. It is a very significant special holiday tradition for my family to go to church, have dinner together, and hear stories from my family's childhood, with all 4 of my aunts and uncles there as well as my mother, I am one of 12 cousins now!

A favorite tradition of ours is that on Christmas Eve we turn all the lights off, except for the tree & watch "Its a Wonderful Life." Something about that movie, and just having the tree lit..is so magical and calming. It never fails to make me appreciate all that we have to be thankful for each year.

What a fun giveaway... I love reading about all the traditions! I'm not sure if it's a tradition yet as it's only three years old, but my new favorite "tradition" is the advent calendar we do with our kids. It's a Norwegian elf doll we hang from the foyer mirror, and each of his pockets is filled with a small something to commemerate each day before Christmas. The kids are always so excited to see what little treat or trinket is awaiting them each morning.

Love your blog. I've found so many fantastic ideas here. You are a true rennaisance woman! :)

My favorite tradition is putting out the wooden clogs to do the 12 days of Christmas Countdown. Every night the children put out their wooden shoes near the firplace and wake up to see what was left. It's usually a little candy or jewelry bauble. We still do the stockings on Christmas Eve, but this is always exciting and it brightend their day.

I just love Lilly ornaments! My favorite tradition is just the whole season. Since we live in Florida, 1,000 miles from our nearest family, the tradition of packing the car FULL of gifts and dog and child to drive 18 hours, to walk into the parents house filled with gifts and a lit warm house with a fire, is just the best feeling ever! It's two weeks of fun filled family love that we don't get to see for the 11 other months out of the year. The whole season for us is not the gifts, it's the family, the Lord's birth, the love and joy we have....with a little pink, green and red thrown in! We leave for out trip in a week and we CANNOT wait (I'm getting teary -eyed as I write, this season means a lot to us!) Merry Christmas to you too Hopsy - tell us about your Christmas traditions!

This will be my first christmas tree on my own and very short on ornaments. I couldn't think of a better way to adorn my tree. My usual christmas tradition is that my sister and I have a sleepover in her room and we share her bed, despite having a perfectly good bed down the hall. Presents can't be opened until everyone is awake, and since I'm the early bird in the house I sleep with her so that I can pester her in the morning.

Putting ornaments on the tree is a trip down memory lane and a history of our family. The handcrafted ornaments are at home with the other silver, glass, and glittery ornaments. While everyone is going through the Santa loot on Sunday, I am the breakfast short order cook. You name it, I'm on it. Usually, the kids give me their order the night before.

For many years my father owned a business that was open on Christmas Day. He gave the employees off and our family worked all day. We always had visits from friends as they traveled to their families. Because of that, we always celebrated our family Christmas on Christmas Eve. We always had a simple dinner centered around ham. Afterwards we would open our gifts. We always invite friends that have no plans for Christmas Eve. This will be the first year that we will celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day.

I tagged you on my blog.

There are many favorite Christmas traditions, but I guess mine is, as a girl, going into New York City for a 10 pm dinner at a French brasserie, then going to midnight mass at the church where I was baptized. We would drive home to Connecticut around 2 am. The car, driven by my father, would be entirely silent, and we would fly past snow drifts and expanses of trees backlighted by the moon and shadows. I remember being struck by the glamour of the city, the awe inspiring architecture of the church and the beauty of the woods driving home.

Even as a college student it's a tradition I've been able to continue, which is the best part about it.
