Honoring with Wreaths

There are some stories you hear about that you only wish the mainstream media would choose to cover.
I must say that before yesterday I had no idea where the wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery came from.
However, thanks to the generosity of a patriotic American every veteran's grave now has a wreath! Starting in 1992 the Worcester Wreath Company (a company I think everyone should support!!!) began donating wreaths to be placed on graves. While every grave was not adorned in 1992 with the help of volunteers and groups of Maine school children over 100,000 wreaths have been laid in 17 years. Thanks to the idea of one man the fallen heroes that provide us with out everyday freedom are now honored during this holiday season!

Now, enough of Tiger and more on our heroes!!

Not only do they lay wreaths at Arlington, but all of the National Cemeteries. You can help out by placing wreathes on gravesites at a local cemetery near you

Almost forgot!

Here is the website, if anyone is interested in participating in a ceremony near them!

It's a great program! I pass Arlington Cemetery every morning driving to work, and it is so nice to see the wreaths. In case you were wondering, they rotate sections where they lay the wreaths each year (they still haven't made it through the whole cemetery yet), and they only lay them on the Christian graves out of respect.

What a great story. I have a friend buried at Arlington, and it's definitely moving at Christmas time.

Thanks for sharing. What a wonderful story and something NICE for a change! The media certainly fails in many respects as far as I'm concerned!

I've seen a lot of coverage for this on the news. NBC ran a story about this within the week, and I defintitely remember it from years past. It's a lovely thing.

Hopsy, thanks for sharing. It's difficult to explain the feeling one gets when visiting Arlington National Cemetery.
I love your blog, it's so upbeat and fun. I left you a little something on mine this morning (Shopaholic in Alabama). Enjoy, and Happy Holidays!

Agreed....enough about Tiger!

I read this story a couple years ago and could not believe one man would do this but as you stated this is the stuff that should be front and center on all magazine covers and newscast instead of another woman who slept with Tiger Woods.
This is a true hero and role model. MB
PS aren't the photos just amazing!!!

I was one of those volunteers laying the wreaths last year. It was very powerful and something I won't ever forget--everyone should do it at least once!
