Preppy Flashback

Several blogging friends have played this game so after finding an appropriate photo I decided to join in with a Preppy Flashback!
This picture was taken of mother (I am pretty certain father took it, don't you think?) when she and father moved to Germany upon their graduation and wedding. Father went to West Point and they were stationed there for several years. Mother took her preppy ways across the Atlantic and sported the classics with pride!

"I am wearing a JG Hook Shetland crew with a whale, a Scottish tartan (not sure of the plaid, maybe dress McKenzie), wool argyle knee-hi's, Weejun penny loafers and a monogrammed Talbots wide whale corduroy Bermuda bag. I am standing in front of our Fiat X-19 in West Germany @ 1980!!!"

Love this photo...I'm pretty sure I had the same skirt! Love that look!

That ensemble would work just as well today as it did in 1980! As a matter of fact I wish I saw more of this than I do the tight spandex, too-tight jeans, etc. etc.

Preppy style obviously runs in the family! Totally timeless.

Lovely! I think that's the Dress Gordon tartan.

OMGosh! I know this outfit perfectly. Don't know if you saw my post on 10/9 of my honeymoon 26 years ago but I think your mom and I may have been separated at birth. It was the 'way we were.' :) xoxo

I love it, looks just like my mom down to the Bermuda purse.

What a great photo! It takes me back to my Vassar days when I had a really similar outfit, but I had a monogramed navy Talbot's sweater instead. Whatever happened to Bermuda bags - just loved having a bag to match every outfit!

Wow, beautiful - there is quite the family resemblance. I think I could find a similar pic of myself in the 80's.

That looks just like an outfit I would have worn in Junior High. Classic, tailored, timeless and preppy. Thanks for posting it.

Talk about a flashback!!!! That could be me!! We sure had alot of style in the 80's. My "going away outfit" was JG Hook!! Navy sweater, camel skirt and camel bermunda bag!

Your adorable mother! I just think this is too cute. I can say with almost certainty that I had an outfit quite similar to that one--I still have the Weejuns in the closet, although the penny has been removed. Now, back when your moms photo was taken, GSG was just a wee little thing, but I sported a hand bag like this although scaled down for little hands. It was monogramed, of course!

The apple didn't fall far from the tree! haha! You and your mother are equally adorable!

Your mother looks so much like you in that picture! Her hair is almost the same style as yours in the picture of you to the right of the post. Was she about your age in that picture?

Your mother's outfit (down to the JG Hook brand) is very similar to the one I was wearing in the vintage prep picture I posted a few weeks back. Mine was taken in 1981.

Thanks for sharing!

Let's get Lilly to bring back some of these great looks! And yes, I do think the plaid is dress Gordon. Did Helen mention that I gave her the skirt & she had it shortened to wear at Taft? Timeless is right! Helen's Mother

And I just noticed the monogram on the cuff of her shirt!

I love this pic. I had that exact sweater. When I was in school me and each of my friends had our own "thing" and no one else was aloud to wear it. Whales were my thing and this was my favorite sweater. Thank you for sharing.

I do believe I have that same outfit. How funny

I swear my mom had the same outfit...not the same car but the same outfit. At the time, she wore her hair in a loose fitting bun & occasionally had horn rimmed glasses! Such prepsters!!
