Taco in a Bag!

A few weeks ago I threw an impromptu Taco in a Bag/Ice Cream Sundae party. Now what is Taco in a Bag you might ask? Only the greatest invention ever! The only work required by the hostess is the cooking of the meat and the set up of the buffet. You buy bags of Fritos (next time I would steer clear of the snack size and go straight to the $.99 bags- the bigger, the better!) and then all the toppings you love to put on tacos. I do cheese, pico de gallo, corn, beans, guacamole, meat and of course sour cream. Guests then take a bag of Fritos and load on their toppings and shake the bag up and this is dinner. We always eat right from the bag so clean up is a cinch too. It is SO delicious and SO easy! Not only is it great for impromptu dinner parties, but it works for picnics and even tailgating. It is always a HIT so consider throwing your Taco in a Bag party tonight!

We do the something similar only it's a salad with the same ingredients. Lettuce, avocado, tomatoes and/or salsa, sr. cream, cheese, warm meat (or not), corn, onion, warm beans, topped with crushed fritos. You can't go wrong.

Had these with the grandsons last night. When we pour the Fritos on a plate, then top them we call them Haystacks! Learned of the bag taco years ago while living in Washington State. Texas friends shared the idea. Love your blog!!

I worked as an intern at the 1982 World's Fair, where these treats made their debut as Petros. They were a huge hit with fairgoers who could walk around and enjoy a hot and tasty snack. Thanks for the reminder of a great snack and a happy summer memory!

Oh my gosh I love this meal. I remember this back in high school (early 80's) but we ate them with chili and cheese poured over an open bag of fritos... delicious either way.
thanks for keeping the memory alive.
