In this week's addition of WASP Wednesday Muffy and I celebrate WASP vehicles!
Just like everyone else in the world a WASP also must get around town. However, unlike many a WASP does not always have to have the newest model car in the most exclusive color. As we all know WASPs love classic and the longer something will last, the better. So, when it comes to driving WASPs never steer clear of the classic cars.
Just like everyone else in the world a WASP also must get around town. However, unlike many a WASP does not always have to have the newest model car in the most exclusive color. As we all know WASPs love classic and the longer something will last, the better. So, when it comes to driving WASPs never steer clear of the classic cars.
Just as with home goods and hair accessories WASPs like to go back to their roots when it comes to vehicles so they tend to buy European. Merecedes are WASP favorites. Not only to they have the classic lines, but they can last for ages (with just a handful of mechanical issues here and there). Mercedes can be bought when the youngest WASP hits middle school and last into the WASP grand parenting years; they just get better and better with age!
Like their British counter part, the Sloane Ranger, WASPs also love Land Rovers...especially Range Rovers. You can fit the entire WASP entourage in the Rover and speed off for a weekend in the country. Even the WASP dog can tag along in the back next to the onion souffle, bacon crackers, squash racquets and anything duck hunting related.
Finally, much like the Rover the Volvo wagon is also great for the busy WASP. The extra two back seats are great for WASP carpool from the country day school to the country club, but they can be folded down for Yale/Harvard tailgates. Again, the wagons last for ages upon ages so of course the WASP wife cannot leave the lot without one!

My husband's family passed the family Mercedes down to the kids as they replaced it with a newer model. The oldest child would get the newer car and pass their car to the next in line. Being the youngest of 4, my husband always had the oldest Mercedes to drive. I actually loved the look of that classic car even though it was quite antiquated. I borrowed it from him when we were dating and was stranded at the mall because I had no idea how to start it.
Great post!
And that station wagon is perfect for passing down to baby wasp when she turns 16!!
There really is nothing like hopping in the family rover on a crisp fall day to go antiquing! A great childhhod memory of mine.
Very clever. I really look forward to your Waspy Wednesdays. They are always fun! xoxo
Great post! I do love the Volvos! I'm dying to get into one soon!
not sure what this says about me, but i have owned all of those cars...well except my volvo was not a station wagon just a sedan. i went green this last time and am driving what Mr. grove refers to as the Green Mom Mobile, my Lexus RX400 hybrid and i love it.
My dream car for when I become a mom is a volvo wagon.
Love it! I drive a VW (also an acceptable, IMHO and according to TOPH), but when friends talk about the flashy cars they're buying after their first big paychecks, I'm secretly excited about the Volvo wagon I plan on getting after my first child is born!
(Hi Mopsy! I'm back from break & catching up--glad to hear you've been doing well!)
a volvo wagon is so my future mom car!
kHm
You are hilarious... and so right!! I drove an old Mercedes that was handed down to me until it just wasn't big enough for newborn triplets!! One day I am going to get the Mercedes SUV when our little ones are a bit older and I don't have to carpool! It's tough to find a car big enough for 5 bambinos!
Guess where I'm going for Labor Day?! One of your faves.... hint ... it's in the NC mountains!
I had a navy Land Rover just a year ago and I actually like them better than the RR because they had that extra sunroof! (I like lots of light in the car)....
I also had that EXACT navy Volvo station wagon a few years back. Wish I still had it. I do NOT like my current SUV ....too big...but we needed that extra 3rd row seat....sigh.
I have a Volvo, but it's not a wagon yet. Maybe that's in store soon! :)
My grandparents were very WASPY. My grandpa had an old Mercedes that he only used to drive to the golf course! He was just the cutest.
I rock a volvo and would like to upgrade to a range!
A Mercedes is always very safe and a great investment! I have developed a 'collection' of WASP vehicles over the past few years, just because I become so attached to them! My Lexus is 10-years old this year and my baby. I couldn't bear to part with it 3-years ago when I bought my Prius (3-years ago, in CA, the gas prices skyrocketd). My fiance bought an Infiniti for me 2 years ago. So there they are: my little car family!
p.s. the Volvo is my fiance's favorite! He's had at least 2 of them in the past 10-years.
I had a Mercedes wagon but, it wasn't big enough for 2 baby seats & a big dog. :( I think it would be just fine now for 2 children (4 & 5 years old). Too bad it's long gone. It was beautiful. Now, I drive a BMW X3 M series. It is beautiful but, I can't wait to get rid of it for a Volvo wagon. Now that the children are bigger a wagon is practical.
Advice to mom's to be--check out your dream car with baby seats & test drive with both you & your hubby before making a big purchase like a Mercedes...2 baby seats take up a lot of leg room! You never know if you will need 2 seats!
I love my navy blue volvo wagon!!!
Love the post...I have a black land rover and I LOVE it!
My first car was a Mercedes 190E. Then when I got married and moved off it was passed down to my brother, and then eventually to my sister. It was nearly 20 years old when my family finally parted with that car. I loved it so so much.
My husband drives a Mercedes, but Miss Janice loves her BMW...ooops! We got half of it right:)
Cute post! I am loving my Volvo!
Have a great weekend!
Land Rover driver here! :) Not a WASP, but I drive my dark navy blue Land Rover just as well as any WASP! ;) lol
You should have touched on hwo WASPs would never get ostentatious colors like flashy orange or bright red. They are definitely more subdued, and I think that is much classier. A fancy car with a bright paint job just screams, "look at me!! look at me!" Definitely un-wasp like.
LOVE my LR. Wouldn't trade it for the world. :)
I think there are Mercedes people and BMW people. I like my BMW, but a beautiful Mercedes wagon will turn my head now and again. DOTR drives our old Landcruiser and I really don't think we'll ever get rid of it. We'd planned on handing it down to the boys but he won't part with it.
I loved this post Hopsy! I have had Waspy wheels on the brain lately too. Check out my recent post on old Wagoneers :) I'm a previous Rover and Volvo driver but currently on Suburban #2...
I drive a 1988 Mercedes wagon, it is my second one of the same year. I love them. For being 21 she is in wonderful shape and will keep her a long time.
Funny our volvo is now vintage and will soon be relegated to our sons...the twins will be on the road ladies...so watch out!
