Make Your Walls Speak!

I am blessed to have such a wonderful and well rounded mother. Mother is a history buff, always up on currents events and fashion, is super outgoing, always gives back and a wonderful Christian role model. She is so talented and unique and I am lucky to have been raised by her. Well, another is mother is good at is interior design. I am blessed to have lived in a beautifully decorated home wherever we lived and I get all my advice from mother when it comes to decorating. One thing we believe is extremely important to home decry are wall hangings. Paintings, prints and artifacts can be found throughout the walls of our home. However, another thing mother is all about are beautifully framed photos! She has framed photos with fun invitations, poems or other items that had connections to that photo through the years. Well, even though I am an only child this is the result:Father and I call this The Shrine. There are photos galore of Hopsy through the years. You can find the classics from Sea Island, my portrait, the black and white baby photos mother had taken and then of course my First Communion photos (the invitation and favor are also framed on the top center). I think it is such a brilliant idea to build a collection over the years and hang them in such a manner. However, it is a very good thing I am an only child or else some condensing would have to be done!
This is another wall of the same room, it is scaled down shrine. As much as I hated going to the photographer when I was younger (I was a bit of a wild one and had to be held down in the first photo), I am so grateful mother had these done. If I ever get married and have children I plan on doing the same thing every two years and hanging them in a similar arrangement.
Large photos also look lovely next to beds!
Enjoy your walls and make them come alive by adorning them! You want to make a house a home and personal mementos are a wonderful to do this!
PS- Lilly was 100% fabulous yesterday! I had the best time and cannot wait to return next week. Bride Wars is also a delightfully entertaining flick that is a must to see with you girl friends!

What beautiful walls!!! Love the pink color too! I have 2 girls and for their first year pictures taken at one month, 4 months, 8 months and 12 months, they are wearing the same dresses. I saved the special ones just for this purpose. Each girl's pictures are in a grouping and hang over each other, so I can compare them at the same ages and in the same dresses. Glad you enjoyed your day at Lilly! Love & blessings!

It is go great that you have such a close relationship with your mom! Moms are the best. And, I love your framed pictures. What a wonderful collection for your family to have in your home. Plus, someday years from now your grand babies and great grandbabies will be able to see what their wonderful grandmother Hopsy looked like. :)

I *loved* seeing these photos! I, too, have a "shrine" in my parents' home, we call it "the memorial wall"... hehe Love being an only child sometimes! I do love that your darming mother framed poems and invitations as well, I'd love to start that up when I have a real house to call my own!
Hope all is well, miss you!

Such a great idea. Your mom has an amazing eye for hanging everything! I have a collection already that I need to find frames for and hang. So happy you had a good first day at Lilly

Wow, that's a lot of photo action! My walls are despairingly bare because we have more wall space than ever before these days and we are still putting together just the perfect collection of wall hangings. The idea to frame invitations and other ephemera never occurred to me - thanks!

My parents are minimalists so maybe I can rob them of their family photos and they won't notice. *wink*

The pink ribbon hanging the larger portrait is gorgeous.

WOW! I wish I could do something like that in my apt but nails won't work and those hooks are so unreliable!

How precious! I love what your mother has done with the photos, invitations etc. and documented them and turned them into art. I am so lucky to have a mom that takes time to do these things as well. Also, I am a big fan of smocked dresses and big bows :)

You are truly blessed. I do have quite a few photos/portraits of me as a child.

If my life would have been different when my daughter was born and then growing up, I feel certain I would have a tribute to her...she is my pride and joy.

However, I am going to file this away for ideas for her for when she is married and has her own little ones.

Thanks for the rec on Bride Wars. I was going to take the girls to see it this weekend, but it may end up being something I go see or we see another time. DH wants to go see the Hotel Doggy movie and surprise the girls. arf arf
