It's America

Today is such a big day for our nation! The president America elected on November 4th will be sworn in to office. While he was not originally my candidate he is my president and as I said last week I will be respectful of that fact. I will pray for President Obama and his family as they embark on this life long journey and I encourage others to do so as well. I personally feel as if President Bush had it very rough and I would not wish that kind of treatment on anyone as it is demeaning to the office of our leader. We are Americans and as I have mentioned time and time again we have so much to be thankful for. Living overseas really allowed me to learn this at a young age and I will forever be grateful to live in this amazing country. I am thankful to every single man and woman that has ever served this country- they are heros!!- and am I so proud of my family members who were in the service. I am blessed to vote in a free election and wake up every morning and have the same rights as those in the apartment above and below me. There are so many people in this world that spend much of their lives dreaming of coming to this country and we are already here! We live in the land of the free and home of the brave. May freedom forever ring and may God bless America on this historic day and everyday!

Thank you for this post! I agree with you 100%! We have to lift our leaders up in prayer, whether we voted for them or not! I have an uncle, and four cousins who are serving our country right now, and I want to say thank you for your prayers! God bless!

I 100% agree. People forget how amazing it is because sometimes they aren't aware of the situations in other countries, but like you said, people would kill to live here! We should be so thankful.

I'll definitely have to make that pasta, it looks delicious! and yes it's from Martha Stewart.com!

Kappa Prep, I was about to post a similar post to my blog. But you said it so well. I am in the same situation as you. He was not my candidate, but he is my president. Not because I agree with the solutions he is going to lay out, but because I am an American. I am going to miss President Bush and hope that Republicans around our great nation have a little more class and treat President Obama with the respect that the office deserves. If he messes up, we should be there to offer a better solution, not just a criticism. But, if his plan works, we should be thankful. Our country needs his plan to work. God Bless!

I read recently that the reason there is such a long delay between the election and inauguration is because George Washington requested time for Martha to join him. I have no idea where she was but she actually didn't make it on time anyway so the President went to the balls alone or with friends or something. Clearly this was all pre-Air Force One!! :)

Thank you for this! I agree with every single thing you said. Obama was also not my candidate, but I agree we must be respectful and support him with our prayers. I hope Bush will have a warm welcome in Texas! And I agree, Jackie's dresses were fabulous and it's amazing she did all she did after just giving birth! I'm glad I could bring up a little memory of Taft for you as well. Enjoy your day!

Thank you for this. You are completely right. President Obama was not my choice, but he has been chosen to lead this country, and I will pray every day that he has the wisdom and strength to guide us.

I completely agree, after spending time in Central America and other impoverished nations, I truly believe that Americans often forget how good we have it. Although he was not my candidate either I will support President Obama for the good of our great nation.

I agree and I lectured my boys about it this morning. they were little Republicans) but I tried to explain to them how historic this day was and how we need to come together and respect President Obama and pray for him. I watched the swearing in in my oldest son's class with his African American teacher..we were both in tears. I had not planned to be there at that time but I was and I will always remember where I was. It was a beautiful moment in history.
