Live Your Style!

This week has been quite busy and I apologize for the lack of interesting posts. I feel like I am letting you down! However, after my busy week last week I needed a bit of a break and I have been concentrating on the election just like many of you. Today I voted as I will be volunteering at the polls for a full day shift on Tuesday. I was so happy to see a huge line of people at the poll; every vote counts!
Now onto to something else exciting: PAPER PRODUCTS!
Yes, you all know I am obsessed, but you too my friend are about to fall in love. Shop Boatman Gellar is a website BG has for all their overstock and retired items. I just love all the fun patterns offered, but my favorite part is of course the price... fifty note cards and envelopes for $12 (small) or $15 (large), fifty holiday cards and envelopes for $20, fifty gift cards for $5 or forty eight address labels for $2. Can you beat that price friends!? The quality of the products found on this site is exactly the same of all other BG products and the selection is just wonderful! Also, all address labels and stickers are meant for use with an ink jet printer- hooray! Here is a sampling of some of the items I purchased for myself and my giveaways (I have been busy printing away and will post photos soon!):
Madras Address Labels for the prep in you.
Bring out your wild side and spice up a present with this darling sticker!

These look just darling by themselves or try printing them with your name (French Script looks wonderful).

If folded notes are your thing, aren't these festive? Some of the folded notes can be ordered with 'Thank You' printed on them...fabulous!

Finally, as Christmas is soon approaching, what about this holiday card?
There is a wonderful selection of photo cards on the site so whether pink and green is your thing or your prefer the simple, lovely red scallop you are bound to find something. Another wonderful thing is that several (I am not sure if all) cards can be ordered with a pre-printed message! Easy on the bank account and you can now mark another to-do off your list!
Boatman Gellar does it yet again! Items are only offered while supplies last so if you see something you fancy you had better stock up now! Add a pretty bow and items like the note cards would make a lovely gift for a girlfriend (you could even buy packing from the site so it looks like it is right off the store shelf) or you can just spoil yourself. As BG says "Live Your Style" while still watching your bank account!

So Cheap It Is Almost Free!

These fabulous Herve Chapelier bags are currently on eBay with less than two hours to go. Now, get this, not ONE is currently over $26! Now that is a real steal considering they retail for at least three times that much. I have been using Herves since high school and they are super durable and even washable (I have washed mine in a machine, but you can also just spot treat them). The color combinations are bright and fun. These bags are great for school, errands, travel and more. Check out the list of auctions and see if there is something that you fancy!

Hot Chocolate!

As you may know I am a huge fan of hot chocolate. One of my favorites is the Williams Sonoma chocolate shavings which is now available. They even have a peppermint flavor, well at least they did last year. I also adore Angelina hot chocolate from Paris. It is simply divine as is the hot chocolate from Laduree and Maison du Chocolate. With all the options out there I could not believe I found another type I adore: Starbucks Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. I tried a tester yesterday and fell in love. It is so yummy and the perfect combination! Head on over to your local shop and order a glass today and let me know what you think (Clara Belle I know you were not a fan, but perhaps you got a bad batch?)!

We all love a little pink and green in our lives I could not resist!
If anyone finds a photo of Michelle or one of the Biden women in pink and green I will happily post it!!

Mother in Dallas!

I had an amazing time this weekend with mother dearest! Sorry to be so MIA, but we were busy as can be having the most fabulous time! Mother arrived in Dallas Thursday and we went to NorthPark to grab lunch at The Mermaid Bar and shop away. To our surprise Ferragamo had decided to participate so that was exciting. Oh, and Lilly was also in on the fun so of course I pick up the Monopoly game!! It is SOOO cute and I cannot wait to make C play with me- of course we will be decked out in out Lilly! After NP we also hit up Snider Plaza and indulged at The Ivy House. Mother picked up some Herend and also bought me some Blue Canton. I now have a very nice collection. We ended the day with

ON Friday we had to run back to NP to pick up shoes and mother grabbed a sweater at NM. Oh and I also picked up a Kate Spade organizer. Lucky me, I got the last one they had in the store! KS, like Tory, had Friends and Family this weekend so I hope some of you all not in Dallas were able to join in on the discount fun. After our quick trip to NP we headed to Highland Park Village for lunch at Cafe Pacific (one of my favorite Dallas restaurants!). We also had to stop in Porthault as mother is figuring out all the bedrooms in India. I got the most adorable headband with a huge bow to use when washing my face and such. I picked the pink heart pattern as that is one of my favorites. We also went into Madison (another favorite Dallas store) where mother got an adorable, elephant table for India. They still have one left in stock and I am very tempted to pick it up for myself. Friday evening we took it easy. I had told mother all about I Heart Yogurt so later in the evening we just had to stop in. For all of those of you who live in Dallas and have not been you are missing out! Get there asap because I know you will LOVE it! After IHY we watched The Other Boleyn girl in the hotel and called it a night.

Saturday was another busy day filled with Partner's Card purchases. We were back to Snider Plaza and HPV to pick up (and pick out) many items. Then, last night we had a very fun dinner to attend. I forgot to take photos so you will just have to take my word that mother looked lovely and we had the best time.

This morning we had brunch with L and C at the hotel. Yum, I just love Fearings! You do get a ton of food, so you have to limit yourself during the early courses if you want to save room for dessert, but it is wonderful!
After brunch we grabbed a cappuccino and then it was off to DFW to bid farewell to the most perfect mother ever! After I dropped her off I ran home and L and I headed to the Kappa Founder's Day celebration at SMU. It was the first time I had been in the chapter house and it was so lovely and such a treat! We had a nice afternoon and even met another Chi Kappa!
I have had such an amazing weekend and I cannot wait for mother (and father) to return in February!

PC Season!

This morning Mother arrives in the Big D! I am so, so excited to spend time with her and use our Partner's Card. For those non-Dallasites out there the Partner's Card is a 20% discount card that can be used at over 700 stores in the Dallas area. You buy the card for $50 and all proceeds benefit The Family Place. The shops are packed during Partners and if you want that pair of Revas that never goes on sale you had better be waiting outside Tory at 10am on Friday morning. Things go quickly and people stock up. Last year they had all the holiday treats out at Williams Sonoma and for a while they even ran out of peppermint bark. Mother dearest and I will have our hands full with shopping, dining and meeting and greeting! We have a fun filled weekend planned and I cannot wait for it to begin!

Video Partay!

Two of my favorite videos for my faithful readers:

Oh, how I love my high school!

Who can resist Mr. Buble?

14 Days

With exactly TWO WEEKS to go...

Regardless whether your candidate wins or loses at the end of this election will you be able to say that you gave your time and energy to fight the good fight or will you sit on the sidelines knowing you could have done more?

There is still plenty of time and many opportunities to get out there and make a difference! I encourage each of you to do something. Whether it be taking twenty minutes to call ten people and remind them to vote, participating in a door-to-door Saturday walk for your candidate or taking November 4th off to volunteer at the polls (like me!!) every little bit counts. It is easy to get caught up in everything and complain when things do not go your way. However if you are willing to give your time for what you believe in you will not have sit at home on November 4th knowing you could have something more. I encourage you all to contact the Democrat or Republican headquarters in your area to see where you can help. For those of you living in Dallas I am more than happy to send you the contact information for the DCR volunteer chair and also fill you in on various opportunities!

Tag!

I have been tagged by CiaoTay:
Top four wishes:
1. That my candidate wins the election!
2. Safety and good health of my family and friends.
3. That I may be able to reach out and help and touch others.
4. That C and I will not have to live in our apartment forever!!

Four places I want to travel to:
1. India
2. Italy
3. Belgium (to see one of my thesis paintings)
4. Cabo (I am not really a Mexico kind of girl, but I have always wanted to go here. Laguna Beach really did influence me!)

Four careers I want to be involved in:
1. My current job- I LOVE it!!!
2. A Teacher for 2nd or 3rd grade
3. Working for the White House
4. Event planning for the Met.

Four things I would like God to say to me at the gates of Heaven:
1. "Well done my faithful servant."
2. "Everyone is here waiting for you."
3. "Welcome home!"
4. "I love you!"

Hair

I have gotten a number of reader comments and emails regarding my hair. Before I go on I want to say thank you each of you who has complimented me. I have somewhat difficult hair so it means so much to me!
I have tired just about everything out there when it comes to hair. My hair is naturally thick and curly. I am lucky in that I do not have to wash it daily, but when I do wash my hair I do not use any super, super special shampoo. I do switch shampoos after every bottle as I was once told this is apparently good for your hair. This summer I used Bliss shampoo and conditioner and now I am using Garnier color shield. I also do a John Frieda gloss treatment every two weeks and have Frederic Fekkai shea butter conditioner on hand for the hair around my forehead.
It used to take me ages to do my hair as I would let it dry naturally (this took hours and hours) and then I would straighten it with my Solano Sapphire. If you need a flat iron I swear by my SS. I have had it since high school and it is the ONLY straightener I have come across that gets the job done. No drug store flat iron has ever worked and the Chi did absolutely nothing at all. In fact many friends thought I was crazy, but as soon as they borrowed my Sapphire they had to have one too. Anyway, it took me almost an hour, but one day I decided flat and straight was boring on me and I wanted to have salon hair everyday. So I reverted back to blow drying.
I use a basic blow dryer from Target (nothing special... not like my Sapphire) and a two inch round brush. I do not blow dry all my hair at once, but do it in small sections like salons. I start from the back and work my way around and up. I use the highest heat on the blow dryer, hold it very close (close as in no breathing room close) and really pull. Obviously the large brush gives me great body and also that finishing touch of curl at the ends. It takes me about forty minutes to blow dry my hair. Unless I have some major disaster area I do not use my Sapphire. I occasionally pull it out to fix an unwanted kink or get rid of humidity frizz, but the blow dryer is my new best friend. It can be yours to along with a great large barrel brush! I purchased my brush at Ulta and have not looked back since. As with anything the time you put in can make all the difference. Though there are days I dread standing in front of the mirror armed with my dryer, but the end result is always worth it. If you have thinner hair and your look will not last as long as someone with a thick head I would suggest getting some big curlers (I used to have a one and half inch set of six by Conair) to perk things up. I hope this helps everyone! For the record I am not a hair expert so this is my routine and these are merely suggestions.

Stars of the Fair!

This weekend was another quick one. On Friday C, L and I went to the TX State Fair. We ate our fair share of food (corn dog, funnel cake, fried s'more and cotton candy) and then went to the Jessica Simpson concert. I used to be super in Jessica (you all probably think I go through really odd celebrity phases) so Friday was the perfect night to go. Jessica was pretty good, but most of the spectators were much more into Tony Romo.
I felt sort of bad taking a photo, but I felt compelled to capture the moment for you all.
At the fair!! I am wearing my new Palin pin from wonderful Nina!
On Saturday I got up and ran errands and then we were off to the Stars game. I got front row seats and the create-your-own nacho stand was FINALLY open so even though the Stars lost we had a fabulous time! The Stars Ice Girls!!
Can you spot the girl in the tube top??
Today was a regular Sunday with church and then C and I went to Secret Life of Bees this afternoon. It was a great, touching film. I am now off to finish a few items, but look forward to an exciting post tomorrow. Oh, and to all of you all that have asked for hair tips Tuesday is your day!

Cupcakes!

In honor of it being National Cupcake day I felt it was a must that I put my culinary skill to work and get baking. No, I did not make my cupcakes from scratch since I did not decide to get baking until 7pm, but they did turn out wonderfully none-the-less. I used a box mix, but instead of using oil and water as the recipe called for someone I work with told me to subsided milk and butter for a more homemade taste. I took this advice and the cupcakes turned out fabulous!
Yum, don't they look good? Also, I hope I was not the only one to take note of all the pink. Since today was the last Legally Blonde performance on Broadway (tear, tear) I had to go all out and really honor the day. Pink makes just about anything better!

Dallas Blogs!

If you a blogger that lives in the DFW area that reads and comments on my blog I want to list you on my Dallas blog roll! Please check and see if you are up there and if not leave a comment with your blog address on this post. There are two of you in particular I am hoping to add, but your profiles are blocked so I have no idea what you blog is and I need to get reading ladies! Thank you all!!

Shoes with Pearls!

I am so thrilled you all liked the shoes I featured with yesterday's outfit. They are truly fabulous and I will admit that every single time I wear them I get loads of compliments. After all you kind messages and questions I felt it my duty to fill you all in so we can be a true prep and sport our pearls.
The shoes are made by Cochni. I bought mine on eBay last year after seeing them on another website. I just looked online for some information and it looks as if the company has two stores in CT (Greenwich and New Canaan) and one in NYC at 38th and Broadway (you guessed right when you thought I might be visiting in November- I need the pink!). The shoes come in a number of colors. I have the black and love them, but it was such a toss up between the pair I got, the pink patent and the leopard. I also found a photo of a lime green suede online.
For those of you interested in purchasing a pair of these fabulous shoes to add to your wardrobe here is the link to the eBay seller from whom I bought my pair. She has a limited stock so hurry over. Also, if you do not have any luck on eBay you might also try The Purple Poppy. They carried the shoes last year and if you poke around their website you can see the pink pair on some of the models. They no longer have the shoes listed on their site so who knows, maybe if you call they will be on sale! Finally, if you are set on something other than the black or leopard (all that is listed on eBay) I would suggest calling one of the stores to gather a bit more information. Good luck and let me know if you buy a pair!!

UPDATE: These shoes run pretty true to size. Mine are a 42 which I wear in all French Sole shoes. I typically wear a 9.5 in most shoes, but can wear a 9 when it comes to all my Revas. I could wear these shoes in a 41 as they are a medium width, but again for the most part they run true to size. If I had to say anything I guess I would say they run a tad big, but just a tad, so barely. I hope this helps! If you have more specific sizing questions please do email me! Also, I forgot to mention before that if you can get these on eBay you are getting a true steal. If I remember correctly they retail for around $100- $115. I bought mine on eBay for $60 plus shipping. Good luck!

Hermes, Hermes

Uh, Oh! I thought you all might find the following story, courtesy of FoxNews.com, to be of interest:

NEW YORK — A passenger on a Paris-to-New York flight has been accused of trying to punch the captain and grabbing his crotch.

The FBI says Mathias Guerrand-Hermes has been released on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond after appearing in federal court in Brooklyn on Wednesday. He is charged with interfering with flight crew members.

Guerrand-Hermes' attorney didn't immediately respond to an after-hours telephone message.

The court complaint says the commotion Tuesday on Air France Flight 008 began when Guerrand-Hermes sat on a female passenger's armrest and ignored orders to sit down.

The crew handcuffed Guerrand-Hermes until the plane landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

News reports have identified Guerrand-Hermes as an heir to the French luxury fashion house Hermes. The company says he isn't involved in its management.

The Marrying Cake

It is with great excitement that I announce the addition of a new blog to our circle. The Marrying Cake is written by my dear friend and coworker. A is a delight to be around, loves the Lord and she is a FABULOUS pastry chef! Last week dear A made me wonderful pumpkin bread and I have also been lucky enough to try her delicious red velvet cake as well. Please stop by The Marrying Cake and welcome A to the blogging world. While you are there make sure to check out her great pumpkin, butterscotch muffin recipe!

Outfit two!

Are you tired of this dress yet???

Here is today's outfit. I could not figure out how to clip the shoes to Polyvore, but had to include them as they are one of my favorites. Pearls can be a girls' best friend too!
I think my new Palin pin will look tres perfect with this outfit next time I sport it!

Winner!!

I may not be a winner when it comes to perfect grammar of the game of love, but I am a WINNER when it comes to amazing Nina's giveaway!! I have several blogging BFFs, one of whom is Nina. We are so similar and I just know we would be the best of friends if we lived closer. When I saw Nina's giveaway I wanted to win so very badly, but it was up to luck! Lucky for me Nina drew Hopsy out of her bag and my Republican stationary (if you all are conservative I might just have to drop you a note) and Palin pin (which I will sport everywhere) will arrive on my doorstep shortly. I cannot thank you enough Nina and I honestly could not be any more excited! Hip, hip hooray for election day!!

Bows and Blair

Well any of those of you that know me personally know I am a headband fanatic. I have two drawers in my bathroom full of headbands. One drawer is for all my ribbon and fabric headbands and the other holds my tortoise shell, plastic and neutral headbands. I am able to channel Blair Waldorf as we both hold a special place in our hearts for the best hair accessories. Well, just like Blaire, Hopsy is also one that LOVES bows (did anyone see her amazing, gray, satin, headband worn at the Yale dean's house?). My mother instilled a love for bows in me when I was barely able to walk. I was always wearing a bow and now I love tying bows, but even better I love bow headbands! I have a darling, black satin, bow headband I wear often, but have been searching for something I can wear with everything...not just black. I randomly came across this tortoise bow headband at Calista Cove last night and must order it! Isn't it fabulous?! For $28 I plan on making it my new staple! The little things are what can make the entire outfit!!

Outfit fun!

Big and busy day today so I have to make it quick! I thought I would share today's outfit with you all. I just adore this Lilly, Beacon dress I bought. Though the color is neutral and though I often tend to lean towards more color it is ultra comfortable and easy to wear. However, as wonderful as this dress is I will say I was a bit disappointed that the hem came out after only wearing the dress twice. I love Lilly as you all know so this was a real let down. I mean I have had a number of my Lilly dresses for almost ten years and not once have I run into this. Honestly, when I pay over $200 for an everyday dress the last thing I want to worry about is finding time to sew the hem. Such is life I guess! Back to the outfit... I wore it with the Bette cardigan in Palm Beach tan. Did you know you can wash the Bette at home!? I was all ready to take it to the dry cleaner until I read the tag. Hopsy is saving money for the warehouse sale. I hope you all had a fabulous day, we are half way through October tomorrow!!

Handpainted and Fabulous!

Looking for the perfect birthday or bachelorette gift?! Search no more!!

I recently came across a wonderful website: J Bee Designs. Jennie is based in Florida and offers us an entire line of unique, hand painted glassware. Her designs are fun and each item is signed and copyrighted. The colors are pleasing to the eye and unique in that Jennie mixes them herself. J. Bee Designs is wonderful to work with and will even change the colors of any design to match your home. Finally, all the designs can be put on any type of glass so whether you are a wine lady, a martini girl or a southern iced tea lover there is something for you!

For all of those that love blue and white and toile (such a perfect combination) or a simple monogram this is for you! The toile glasses are a mere $12.50 while the delightful monogram martini is just $12!

Aren't these plates just darling? I think the polka dot plate would be perfect for any mini Miss and the Eiffel Tower plate made me think of Belle of the Ball. Head on over to J Bee to check out the selection of plates she offers. Every kitchen can use a little splash of color and if you are like me you might even consider hanging your new purchases on the wall!

The holidays are right around the corner ladies! Halloween is now just weeks away and Christmas is about to creep up on us. I think every holiday party is more fun with a little flair, don't you? These martini glasses would really make a statement. You could have them out with candy, nuts or even dips or could use them to serve your Boo Punch or Merry Martini! Both are just $7 a glass and are sure to make you party the talk of the town!
While everything at J. Bee Designs is simply darling I think I have saved the BEST for last! Jennie has an entire section dedicated to preppiness; how perfect! The Preppy Design section and many p&g items are heavy on the pink and green, but easy on your credit card; even more perfect!
Damask plate ($8)and preppy stripe ($12) plates are stunning! Now wouldn't these looking darling in your kitchen or even your bath?! They would also be perfect for that decadent dessert you have been meaning to whip up!
Every house should have fresh flowers a few weeks out of the year. For $15 this would be a lovely gift to bring by to welcome preppy friend's new baby or sick Bitsy. If you are throwing a small fete you could even order several to use on the tables. I think a selection of white flowers would look lovely in this hand painted, polka dot vase adorned with ribbon.
Preppy stripe glasses come in either stemless or a balloon wine glass. For $12.50 each you could even get a set of both. Once you decide which you prefer, gift the other and make someone's day!

A houndstooth iced tea glass or zebra wine glass for $7, yes please! What about getting wild with your pink and green? I think these would be great at a girls' weekend or for an afternoon luncheon.
Have stripes ($7) and polka dots ($7.50) ever looked so cute? I just love that the bottoms of these glasses are all decked out and that ribbon is a delightful touch too!

Can't you just see yourself serving iced tea and lemonade out of the darling pitcher? Such a steal for $30!
What is your favorite fine at J. Bee Designs?
Head on over and stock up now! Mother, sister-in-law and preppy coworker are bound to love any of these unique finds as will your kitchen cabinets and your guests. Your wallet will not even have to suffer if you keep it at one set. Enjoy!!!
