Next Friday night BFF L and I are going to a super fun TX-OU event. I am so, so excited and know it is going to be a wonderful evening. However, I am suddenly having some clothing issues. The dress I had thought about wearing is just really not going to work. It is a very pretty and simple strapless, black, velvet dress from J Crew, but seeing as it is 90 degrees in Dallas it is definite no go. So, I looked online tonight and came up with the following options. All are from J Crew, but only the first two are on the website and the others are direct off eBay.
I love the orange color of this dress, it is so perfect for TX!
This dress is the same style as the orange, just another color. I think the green would actually look better on me, but I still love the orange.
Gosh, I really wish I had thought about this last week when J Crew was offering an additional 20% off sale items. If anyone has a discount code I would appreciate hearing from you!
This is the first dress from eBay and probably my favorite out of all the dresses. It also just happens to be the best deal, but we have to act fast is this is the one. I love the detailing at the top of the dress and I know it will look great with pearls and my shoes. Plus, seeing as it is so basic I will be able to wear it numerous times in the future.
Now the final find of the evening and another eBay dress. I thought the brown was perfect for fall and it too can definitely be worn loads of times in the future. However, compared to all the other dresses this just seems a bit plain.
What are your thoughts? If you were in Hopsy's shoes what dress do you think you would go with??? I am in need of some good advice which you all always bring to the table!

My opinion, you can't go wrong with black and pearls.
I love the black dress! The orange & green ones are great too. I am wearing chocolate brown to my brother's wedding, so I would say you have lots of good choices!! I can't wait to hear what you decide.

Hmm It is hard to decide! I have that green dress in a different neckline so I know it is a pretty color. The orange is great for the TX theme, But the black is very classic!

Oh you simply must go with the orange - you can't pass up a good theme! I'm a Hog fan all the way, but if WERE for some reason going to a Longhorn event I would most definatately wear the orange!!!
I also think you should get the brown - it's a great dress and you can't go wrong with brown for other events!
I was in Cotillion and Slipper Club back when I was, uh, er, umm, uhh, eh, (cough) young. Lol.

You've got your entire life to wear the black--which you could never go wrong with BUT I'm thinking that while you are young--wear the orange!
black and pearls is classic - but mix it up with the brown i think the others are too cute but maybe a little summer-y?... have a ball!
I like either the black or the orange. You really can't go wrong, though! SO cute!
I think they're all great choices. My only caution as to the E-Bay dresses would be to check the seller's reviews to make sure you can count on them to send it out quickly since the event is so soon.

I was sold the second I saw the detailing on the black one!! But they are all cute. I'm w/ the others... always adorable to represent with "the colors" but the black would be a fab addition to The Closet! xoxo

Oh, are you going to the Dervish party? I would be there, but we hae this wedding. You will have s much fun! The Texas band comes and plays.

Since it is a TX event, the orange dress is a must! Any other event, I would go with the black.

the brown is my least favorite, even though it is still nice. i think the black dress is the best option.
I like the brown and the black one and I think they are the best for fall.
We move this weekend and we are so ready and excited!
I actually vote for the chocolate brown. You can totally punch it up with the right pashmina, necklace and shoes. And with your coloring you would look so elegant...black is classic, but will likely be so common.
Second choice is the orange...fun and unexpected...plus keeps you in touch with your younger love of the color.

My bridesmaids wore those EXACT J. Crew dresses in the Chocolate brown, I bought each of them a pashmina in pink to liven it up. Everyone wore pearls and looked gorgeous.
Second choice is orange bc I think it will look gorgeous with your blonde hair and pretty smile :)
I would go with the black ebay dress ...this from a girl who has only ever bought black cocktail dresses...I am a creature of habit...

Black dress, with pearls, definitely - if the event is in the evening. I'm not sure what the event is, but if it was a day to evening I would wear the green - that dress would be perfect for a garden party or a wedding / christening. I can't possibly recommend orange as those are tu colours! Even though it would probably look great! Would love to hear more about what Cotillion is!

I think the black would look great and yes with your pearls and shoes gorgeous! I do like the orange though...and the green! I did see the code is EXTRA20 but it says it expired on Sept 28...
My concern with the orange dress is that you might see yourself coming and going. Everyone turns to J Crew when they need an outfit and it seems like everyone would think, "Orange! How perfect!" Know what I mean? What if somebody else had your same dress on- would you be OK with that? Just saying...

My bridesmaids wore the fresh aloe JCrew dresses....different styles, but same idea! They were very pretty in the summer, but may be too bright for fall? The orange is very "now", but love the simplicity of black...always!
I would vote for the green or orange... the black is lovely, but there will be tons of girlies in black. Colors really pop and can always be matched with pearls! I think green would be great with your coloring and a pastel pashmina or you could do a fall look with the orange and brown shawl/pashmina. Can't wait to hear how it goes!
I would wear the green if I were you, but I think you should get the black! It's more "Hops" and less "Muffy"

i have found the best site for j.crew coupons since they have banned them from being posted at the usual coupon sites . . . . take a look at http://jcrewaficionada.blogspot.com/ . . . . she ONLY talks about j.crew, and on the right hand column she ALWAYS has multiple coupons! definately check her out!
