Before I go on to recap my weekend I want to say that I hope each and every reader touched by Hurricane Ike is okay! You and your families are in my thoughts and prayers. My hearts also go out to each person connected to the horrible train crash yesterday afternoon.
Just like the news, my weekend was quite eventful as well. I was busy working on Friday evening and on the way home decided to stop at 711 for an Icee. I am really into Icees, but I think that is for sure the very last time I will be going to 711 past 10pm... I spent the rest of my evening watching the news coverage of the hurricane since I had decided to get up early on Saturday to walk in the Dallas AHA. C and I were all set to go (I was especially excited to see the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders!) and I prayed the rain would hold off until at least 11am. Well, we got up at 8:15am, got all dressed, left our apartment and it started to pour rain! I was not about to walk 5k in the on again off again pouring rain so we decided to detour from Victory back to our apartment. Very sad! I continued to watch the hurricane coverage for the next hour before heading out to NP to run errands. I had decided to make Momx2 Pumpkin Bread and had to buy a proper loaf pan from Williams Sonoma and also wanted to try on a particular Lilly dress. Even though the weather was not too pretty outside the mall was sort of dead, a real rarity at NP! I got my loaf pan, tried on my dress, ran to Nordstrom's (my new favorite department store, yes it even beat out NM, but only slightly) and then returned to Lilly to buy this:
I had planned to buy this as soon as I saw it in the catalog and when I found out Melly was already sold out of my size and the Dallas LP store had already sold a handful I knew I could not wait. After some thinking and a few phone calls to the mother I ran back into LP and made it my own. I cannot wait to wear it on Tuesday with my Bette cardigan!
I also wanted to show you all this dress that I bought at the beach:
As you know I simply adore the shift cut and this dress is a new staple in my fall collection (I am wearing it as I type actually!). I am going to call Melly in the very near future and order it in navy. Won't the navy be darling for the upcoming election? I can add an elephant pin to really spice up my outfit!
After some shopping I returned home to bake my heart out! I made this amazing pumpkin loaf and muffins. If you LOVE pumpkin I highly suggest this recipe! Since it is a recipe, not a mix, I took the author's suggestion and went to central Market and got mostly organic items to use. It turned out just wonderful and since the batch yielded so much I even froze some! Then, after eating my fair share C and I were off to volunteer for the evening. We helped at a fun event called Art for the Bridge from 5pm until 11:30pm. I worked at the front with the two kindest ladies and we had a ball! It was a wonderful way to end the day.
This morning I went to church and lunch with a fun group. I had intended to tidy up the papers on my desk afterwards, but that did not happen. Whoops! I have a very busy week ahead of me so I am off. Thank you for all your help and information regarding the waffle makers! I am looking into each model you all suggested and will make sure to keep you updated. Have a wonderful week!!
PS- I got the Pumpkin Spice latte with soy milk and it really just does not taste the same. In fact I could not even drink the entire tall! I think I am going to change my plan around and have dairy on certain days. I never intended to go vegan anyway so I will make this work!
