Life under the crown

As promised a short/quick post on William and Kate made possible with the help of Hello and Grazia (they came out with a Kate issue today, what luck, right?).

With rumors stirring of an upcoming engagement I figured I might as well keep everyone at home in tune with the most exciting news in Britain: the relationship of Prince William and Kate Middleton. A year ago we were shedding tears over their breakup and now there is talk of a possible wedding in the next few years. If this indeed does happen I am going to have to get together with a group of Anglophiles and throw a breakfast watching party just as my mother did for Charles and Diana, how fun that would be! It could be complete with tea and scones, of course only the best for such a special occasion! Anyway, according to Hello! William begins his full time royal duties this coming January when she finishes up his two years with the Armed Forces. In the past royals have announced their engagements at the beginning of the year and gotten married the following June or July (how amazing it would be if I would be here at that time). Apparently, William would likely wait to make any sort of announcement (if indeed he makes one at all in 2009) until the Queen returns from Sandringham so it would come sometime around the 10th-17th of February. As the Windsor family has packed June it is possible to even guess an exact wedding date; it would be socially dreadful for the big day to fall during Wimbledon, Ascot or any of the famous garden parties. The press is thinking July is looking better and in 2009 the 18th and 25th are promising, but if we are left to wait until 2010 perhaps the 17th or 24th will be a day that goes down in history. It is assumed the wedding would be at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, but Windsor Abbey is the most likely London option (it is assumed that after the bad luck of Charles and Di St. Paul's is out of the question). Upon the marriage of Kate to William, Kate will be known as Princess William, but this is only a temporary name. When Charles becomes king, William will become the Prince of Wales and Kate the Princess of Wales. However, there is also the option that the queen might make William a Duke therefore Kate would become a Duchess (the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge or Connaught- I would personally prefer Connaught as The Connaught Hotel is my favorite in London). Finally, I am sure you are wondering where would the newlyweds be left to live? William will have to wait to inherit Clarence House until his father becomes king, but a roomy apartment in St. James Palace is a good option until then. The couple will also of course have access to the numerous country houses and estates to enjoy on the weekends and holiday.

Now, as we anxiously await the possible engagement of the two lovies we must keep up with their current endeavors. Kate is jobless at the moment. However, after hearing the Queen is apparently raising concerns about this last week loads of job offers have flooded Kate. Two 'very serious' offers have come her way and as an Art History major it is believed one might be from Tim Jeffries' Hamiltons photography Gallery or Timothy Taylor's gallery...only time will tell. William of course respects his grandmother's wishes therefore putting more pressure on Miss Middleton so maybe in the next few weeks I will have another update to share. As far as William's life goes he is preparing for a two month stint with the Royal Navy. He has three weeks of on shore training and will then join the crew of the HMS Iron Duke. Luckily, he will hopefully be around to celebrate his 26th birthday on June 21st with the Windsors and of course the one and only Kate Middleton.

Hope you all enjoy the latest royals news! I am off to bed and will write again tomorrow. Life is just fabulous and thank you for all the lovely comments. Whenever I see a new one it just makes my day!

Kate is just so darn gorgeous! I'm obsessed with the British papers (well, anything British) so I'm always following their coverage! (On that note, Coleen McLoughlin and Wayne Rooney finally got married yesterday - kind of a chavvy couple, but Coleen looks so gorgeous in the pictures!)

So happy I have a fellow Dallasite defending our fair city as well!

I also read in the newspaper on the flight home from London, that she has never been called "Kate" by anyone other than the press, and that she goes by Catherine. "Kate" was a nickname given to her by the newspapers.

I too had a breakfast party to watch Charles and Diana's wedding way back in the dark ages, and they were married on a weekday. When you're the heir to the British throne, you don't have to wait for a weekend.

They say that the reason that Charles and Diana were married at St. Paul's is because it is much better for television cameras--Westminster has that gate thing that gets in the way and it's very narrow.

And finally, I bought the Hello magazine with the most recent royal wedding photos at the airport--it came out the day we were coming home. Lucky timing!
